About Me

Hello!  I'd like to share a little bit more about me and my background to help you decide if you would like to get in contact with me.

I have experience working with individuals and groups touching a wide range of life impacting events.  I have spent much of my counselling career working with a diverse group of people, 8 years of which has been working in a children's hospice directly with the children who access hospice services and with their family members (namely siblings, parents and grandparents).

I have many years experience working with children and young people (from the age of 4 years up), this often involves specific work around building positive self-worth and self-esteem, supporting children and young people to cope with the loss of loved ones, preparing for and coping with medical procedures and hospital admissions, working on self-identity, creating strategies to boost resilience, managing bullying, dealing with life in cyberspace and promoting healthy ways to cope with heavy feelings at home, school and with family & friends (on and off line).

Although my primary theoretical approach is Carl Roger’s Person-Centred model, I have undertaken a raft of additional training to provide me with a creative and integrated toolkit taking resources from other modalities and theories.  Whilst having good grounding in an established theoretical approach is important, I believe that the value of and growth from counselling comes from the alliance and relationship between you and me.

My core training and qualifications are:

  • PG Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling

  • Diploma in Crisis and Trauma Therapy

  • Certificate in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy

  • Certificate in Therapeutic Play

  • Diploma in Online Counselling

  • Diploma in Clinical Supervision

I have completed additional studies to complement my grounding in counselling training.

I have worked with many different people and this has given me lots of opportunity to put into practise what I have learnt in formal education.

I'm not a 'text book' sitting in a chair next to you, I work proactively and bring all of my theory work, skills and real-life experience to every session, in order to help you get the most out of counselling or supervision.
